National Hamburger Day at Japonais

This past Tuesday, May 28th, was National Hamburger Day and restaurants all over Chicago were seriously celebrating the beautiful burgers us Americans love so much. Japonais, the contemporary Japanese restaurant along Chicago's riverfront was not taking the foodie holiday lightly.

In honor of National Burger Day, Japonais created a special burger menu available through the entire week. Exploring different meats to put into patties, Japonais Sous Chef Burke Snipes created a burger menu offering a Kangaroo burger, Salmon Burger, Pork Chop Burger, The famous Japonais burger and their black cod sliders.

The Kangaroo burger with Togarashi spice, Provolone cheese, Yuzu vinaigrette on an onion Challah bun was surprisingly my favorite followed by the light and refreshing Salmon burger with Wasabi mayo, pickled onions, Brie cheese, and shaved fennel on a sesame Challah bun. The patties were expertly executed and provided a bold presence of flavors that I couldn't get enough of! Some may not consider Japonais as a typical place to grab a burger but will be pleasantly surprised at what they've been missing out on.
